In order to you use Keepster, you need 3 things:

1. iPhone
2. (a) MAC Laptop or Desktop running Mac OS Sierra (version 10.12) or higher
   (b) Windows Laptop or Desktop running Windows 10
3. Lightning cable   

Please check if your computer is due for a software update!  If you are not on Windows 10 or MAC OS v10.12 or higher, we suggest that you update your OS.  Yes, we get that it’s never a good time … but your computer will be safer and super happy! 

Also, please check you have enough free space on your computer to accommodate the backup of your messaging. If more space is required please remove any unwanted data on either your computer or iPhone.

Finally, for security purposes, you must establish trust between your device and computer.

Keepster is an app that you install on your Windows or MAC computer.  It can be installed on desktop or laptops, so long as they are running the right operating systems.  See the FAQ "What are the Minimum Requirements?" for specific specs on the operating systems supported.

As for devices, Keepster supports iPhone only.  We don't support Android devices at this time.   

The Keepster app is currently available in English & Spanish.  But, Keepster can properly display messages that have been written in any language that uses Latin script letters - including Spanish, French, Italian, German, Dutch to name a few. In addition Keepster supports Arabic, Japanese, Hebrew plus several other languages that do not use Latin script. 
If you are ordering a book in a particular language not mentioned above, please check the book in Preview to make sure that everything appears correctly.  If you find an issue displaying your messages in a language not listed, please chat with us to ask if it is supported.

Yes, only trusted computers can sync with your iOS device, create backups, and access your device's photos, videos, contacts, and other content. For security purposes, Keepster also needs this trusted settings to perform the backup process. For more information about how to Trust your devices, please see the Apple website. 

IMPORTANT TIP: Make sure you only trust your personal computers. It is not recommended to trust or use Keepster on public computers.

Yes, more than 1 person can use Keepster on a shared computer.  There are two options:

Option 1:  Separate Accounts

1. If Keepster is installed, please sign out and go to the Login screen.  The sign out button is located in the right slide-out menu.
2. Using the signup link, please create your new account.
3. Login to Keepster using the new account.
4. Now that you are logged in, for security purposes, you will need to establish "trust" with your device to complete a backup.

Option 2:  Shared Account

Keepster also allows you to backup more than 1 device.  There is no need to create a new Keepster account if you wish to backup multiple devices.

1. Login to Keepster.
2. For security purposes, you will need to establish "trust" with your additional device to complete a backup.

Establishing Trust for New Devices

You need to establish "trust" with the connected device and computer.  For security purposes, only trusted computers can sync with your iOS device, create backups, access your messages and photos.

1. Plug in your device.
2. Enter your passcode, if you have one, to unlock your iOS device.
3. When prompted on the device, select "Trust".

If you are able and comfortable to complete the 3 tasks above, you will be able to use all features of Keepster on a shared computer.

IMPORTANT TIP: Make sure you only trust your personal computers. It is not recommended to trust or use Keepster on public computers.

Not to worry ... your screen may go dark, but the Keepster backup will continue.  There is no need to change your power saving display settings.  

So long as you do NOT do any of the following, the Keepster backup will continue to run:

• manually put your computer to sleep
• restart or shut down
• close your laptop screen

So, you want to backup your messages, but Keepster is saying you don't have enough space on your hard drive?  This might be the motivation you have been looking for to do some device cleanup to get rid of data you don't need or want any longer.  To create more space, you have two options:

1. Reduce the size if your backup by deleting unwanted data from your iPhone or iPad.  Here are some tips from Apple on "How to check the storage on your iPhone or iPad".
2. Create more space on your computer hard drive.  Here is what Apple suggest on "How to free up space on your MAC".  If you are using a Windows computer, here is Microsoft's articles on how to "Free up drive space in Windows 10".

We recommend following the instructions and tips published by Apple to manage your storage.  Please keep in mind that cleaning up your devices and computer means deleting files.  Please proceed at your own risk.  Only delete things you know that you can live without.

We recommend using both methods, iCloud and local to your computer, to backup your iPhone. As Apple explains, there are pros & cons for each method. But, when both methods are used you will have peace of mind that all your critical information is backup and safe.

For Keepster, we are not able to access your iCloud backup to extract your messages and build your Keepster backup. Therefore, we need you to create the backup on your computer. The good news is that by completing the backup to your computer, you will not only allow Keepster to access the data needed to save your meaningful messages ... you will also be upgrading your protection against losing important information that you might have on your phone.
